Abstract : Changing Contours of Women’s Movements and Development Policy in India
Since the post Emergency period women’s movements have tried to inform state policies in diverse ways. Violence against women has been one of the consistent themes besides economic empowerment, education and health issues. This paper examines how in the last four decades, the gender question has been incorporated in the development discourse in the Indian context. In what ways women’s movements have negotiated with the state in pre and post liberalisation period to mainstream gender issues? How have the women’s movements diversified their agendas and how has the state responded in the context of local and International processes?
